Katie + Kevin https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2011/9/Katie-Kevin Katie and Kevin met on October 12, 2008. I know because I was there, it was at my wedding. My wife had this plot, she thought Kevin and Katie might just hit it off, and she wanted to be sure they were introduced, and she knew they would both be at our wedding. They started dating, it got more and more serious, and almost 3 years later I am at their wedding taking pictures.

It was a lovely day, the reception was in Katie’s Parents’ backyard. Katie worked on all the little details, and everything looked perfect! Katie and Kevin, we are so happy for you, wishing you all the best!

Katie + Seth https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2011/7/Katie-Seth I first met Katie 10 years ago. We became fast friends and have stayed in touch ever since. There have been long times between talking sometimes, but we have always picked up right where we left off. When she brought this guy Seth to my wedding 2 years ago I could see a spark. They were introduced by a mutual friend Tom, who thought they might make a good match. However, the first time Seth and Katie met in person at the Black Cat in DC, Seth was wearing his “Paris pants” and sporting a large Afro, so Katie was a little unsure. Seth, in his wisdom and persistence, quickly won Katie over. (It also helped that he got a super-cute haircut and ditched the Paris pants.) In no time at all, they were inseparable.

Seth surprised Katie in October 2010 with a gorgeous star-sapphire engagement ring and sincere wishes during a mid-day coffee break at Hains Point park in DC, witnessed by a pair of mallard ducks along the Potomac River.

Katie called to tell me the news and asked if I would be their wedding photographer. I was honored to be there and capture this perfect day in photos. Enjoy!

Betsy + Justin https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2011/6/Betsy-Justin Last weekend I was honored to photograph the wedding of my sister-in-law Betsy. She and her now husband started dating shortly after graduating from high school. Their ceremony was scheduled to be outside at The Red Barn in South Berwick, but rain kept them inside. All worked out in the end as the Red Barn has a lovely inside space. Betsy looked stunning, Justin, you are a lucky man. Wishing you many years of happiness together!

Meredith + Ryan https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2010/9/Meredith-Ryan Ryan and I met on the Spring 2004 voyage of Semester at Sea. We traveled together to Lençóis, Brazil. It was an amazing trip and the beginning of a great friendship. He sent me a message on Facebook, “just got engaged, do you do weddings?”. I said yes right away and his next message was “we want you if you want us”. I met Meredith via a Skype conference call and she is just the sweetest girl. They are perfect for each other. Their ceremony and reception was an absolute blast. After the ceremony they took a horse drawn carriage ride around the block! How cool is that?

Ryan and Meredith, I wish you both many happy years together!

Sarah + Cyril https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2010/8/Sarah-Cyril Sarah and Cyril are both pastry chefs so I knew this would be a great wedding to be a part of. Cyril is from France and his family came to enjoy the day. They chose the truly fantastic L’escale restaurant. Family and friends we treated to a great meal and as a special treat, Cyril made the wedding cake himself. It was an ice cream cake with sparklers which had to be finished minutes before being brought out. So after dinner Cyril put on his chef jacket, went into the freezer and put the cake together.

Sarah and Cyril, it was such a pleasure to be there for you at your wedding, I hope you enjoy these images!

Michelle + Christopher https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2010/6/Michelle-Christopher Michelle and I met in Freeport, Bahamas 6 years ago. We were both about to embark on an amazing trip, Semester at Sea Spring 2004. When she called and asked me to shoot her wedding last year, I jumped at the chance. I don’t spend a lot of time at 7,000 feet elevation and found myself constantly out of breath. Flagstaff is a very pretty city, and Michelle and Christopher got married outside among pine trees in view of the San Francisco Peaks. The way they look at each other, you know they are in for a long happy marriage. Here are some images, hope you enjoy!

Kristin + Bryan https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2010/4/Kristin-Bryan Bryan and Kristin have been together since high school and last saturday got married in Ocean City NJ. It was an lovely ceremony at St. Frances Cabrini Church followed by a fun filled reception at the Greate Bay Country Club. There were special personal touches throughout, Kristin made the wedding cake, finishing up very early Saturday morning. Several of Bryan’s friends picked up the guitar and sang songs for Bryan and Kristin. Bryan even edited together a documentary video telling the story of how they met and fell in love. It is clear Bryan and Kristin are meant for each other and wish you many happy years together.

Jenny + Mike https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2010/3/Jenny-Mike This past weekend I traveled to Maryland to photograph the wedding of two former co-workers. It was the first day of Spring and turned out to be gorgeous weather. They are both laid-back and easy-going which made things easy for me. Their friends and family couldn’t have been nicer and Running Hare Vineyard in Prince Frederick, Maryland was such a cool venue.

Mike and Jenny, thanks for having me be a part of your wedding, I had an amazing time. Have a wonderful cruise, and a happy marriage!

Quick trip to San Francisco https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2010/1/Quick-trip-to-San-Francisco My wife goes to San Francisco for a week right before Christmas every year for the American Geophysical Union conference. I have never been to San Francisco before, so I went out at the end of the week and we had a nice weekend together. I had to ride a cable car, and see Alcatraz, we also went to Golden Gate Park, and the bridge. Here are a few images form the weekend, my favorites are from the rock.

Science in the High Lava Plains https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2009/9/Science-in-the-High-Lava-Plains Maureen began working on the High Lava Plains (HLP) Geophysical and Geological Project while a post-doc at the Carnegie Institution of Washington back in 2007. She spent three weeks in Eastern Oregon and came back with great stories of cattle, flat tires and barbed wire fences. I was most interested in The Meat Hook, a restaurant featuring local, free-range, grass fed cattle. She went out several more times servicing the 100+ seismic stations and each time upon returning said “you should come out sometime”. Well, my former work schedule made that tough, but I am now footloose and fancy-free. The project ended earlier this month and they needed help in the demobilization of the stations and I was glad to provide some labor.

Here are some images, with detailed captions underneath, hopefully explaining what was going on in the photo.

I also have a full gallery of images , here is the link:

Science in Virgina https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2009/8/Science-in-Virgina As many of you know, I spent last week helping my wife install seismometers in Virginia and North Carolina. She and her colleage Maggie Benoit of The College of New Jersey have begun a project called The Test Experiment for Eastern North America (TEENA). It is a pilot project designed to probe the structure and dynamics of the eastern US passive continental margin and to understand the connections between the surface geology and deep crustal and mantle structure. The instruments are being deployed during the summer of 2009 from the coast in North Carolina to eastern Ohio and will remain in the field for approximately 8 months.

These seismometers detect earthquakes all over the world and record them, then the data is collected and analyzed to learn more about the structure of the earth where the instrument is located. I really don’t understand much of how that happens, so don’t ask. What I do know is how to construct solar panel frames form PVC and steel rebar, dig holes, glue PVC, thread cables and drive 1800 miles. Because that is really all I did. She did all the hard stuff like drawing a very exact north-south line on the concrete pad using a compass. Not just any compass, but a Brunton, the camera of a equivalent of a D3 or 1Ds Mark III. Placing the instrument on that line, EXACTLY, and leveling it. All this in the bottom of a barrel 4 feet in the ground. We also had to run all the wires through PVC and into a waterproof box. Inside the box are the battery, which is recharged by the solar panel and data logger, which collects and stores the data from the seismometer. Oddly enough, the data is stored on compact flash cards, just like the ones I use in my cameras. The 4GB cards can hold about 3 months of data.

Here are some photos of the installation, I will try to explain each photo in a caption underneath it.

Here you see the blue barrel buried in the ground, the concrete has been poured into it and PVC is being fitted to the barrel lid.

Abandoned in Connecticut – part 2 https://photos.tonyfiorini.com/blog/2009/7/Abandoned-in-Connecticut-part-2 The more you look for these places, the more you see. Huge buildings empty. Weeds growing from the parking lot, holes in the windows, such a waste. Here are some more empty buildings.
